How Does Bullying Affect Students Academically?

From an article titled, "Victims of bullying suffer academically as well UCLA Psychologists report," a study was done with 2,300 students in 11 public middle schools in Los Angeles. In this study, students were asked to answer questions on a level of 1-4 on the scale of being bullied. Here's the results:

-Students who are bullied do worse in school.

-Bullying and having low achievements in school are linked together.

-Students who are bullied lose interest in school, skip multiple times, and usually have a negative outlook on school.

-Many students don't participate in class in fear that they will be made fun of because of their answer.

It's sad how some students can feel this way, here's the link if you wanted to read more about this.

There is a positive to this, I promise!

Even though bullying can make you feel sad, angry, or get you upset when you see the statistics and hear about the sad stories, but when we all step in and put an end to bullying it can bring out a positive in us! It does start with us. When you see negative posts on social media, hear others make fun of others, you have the choice to either be silent and let it continue, or stand up and put your foot down. It starts with you!

I wanted to share this video about Demi Lovato who herself was a victim of bullying. She struggled with some difficult issues, but now she's trying to make others aware of this topic. Check it out!

Types of Bullying.

Remember when I said that there can be different types of bullying it doesn't just have to be a "fight." I found this pie chart that lists different forms of bullying that I found interesting. It was posted on another website addressing bullying as well. Take a look!

It Starts With Me.

Hi Parents/Guardians and Students,

Bullying is a tough topic to address. Some of you have probably had friends who were bullied, family members, or even yourself was a victim of this. However, many of us don't realize the levels of bullying and what it can do.

In this blog, I will share the different levels and how you can step up and be one to help end bullying around you. Bullying might not only be the huge fights we hear about on CNN, but it can even be teasing that we think is funny, when really isn't, posts on Facebook, Snapchats to friends, or even Instagram posts.

All of us have the opportunity to stick up for those around us and end this behavior. It all starts with you! It only takes one person to start making a difference. Please take a couple of minutes and watch this, "Stop It Now, Bullying Prevention" video.
